| River City Bowl |
Went over to Laughlin/Bullhead City this past weekend to check out the
River City Bowl, played by 5 teams from the IWFL. As a fan, this was a
great event for women's football. We were able to see 3 hours of
football which was exciting due to the fact that the teams only had 15
plays on "O" and "D" against each other.
Here is a recap of what I saw, mind you that this was a scrimmage so
there weren't any programs and some teams were in their practice
jerseys:
The strongest team looked to be the Quake, they had the largest roster
around 40 to 45 out on the field. The "D" looked very strong and
quick, which cause a few match up problems for most of the teams out
there. They caused lots of turn-overs from what I saw. Number 44 is
the best player out there, I seen her all over the field, she also got
an int vs. the Showgirlz from what I recall. The weakest point was the
"O", looked as if they only came in with a short list of plays. Didn't
really see any game breakers on the "O", looks like they will try a
control the clock with their "O" and win games with their "D".
Next would be the Showgirlz, they had about 35 dressed. Their "O" had
some game breakers with speed, saw 4 or more plays over 20 yards both
running and passing, would love to see them play the Quake for more
them 15 plays. Looked like they only came in with a small package of
plays to, but was very exciting to see their offense. On the "D" side
of the ball, they were kind of small up front, but was quick to get in
the backfield on just about everyone, guessing they will use their
quickness to stop teams.
The Monsoon had a roster of about 25 to 30 at well, on the "O", looked
pretty large up front, had some good running backs 32 and 42. O-line
was doing a good job upfront control the line but was a little slow
getting off the ball. The TE made some good catches with some great
